Understanding Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Traditionally, hyperbaric chambers were designed to help ocean divers recover if they came up to the surface too fast, causing a condition known as ‘the Bends’. Over the last 80 years, HBOT has been used to treat a variety of illnesses and diseases and is now endorsed by the world's leading medical research hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Mild hyperbaric oxygen Therapy involves the inhalation of purified air or pure oxygen while inside a pressurised chamber at a level slightly higher that atmospheric pressure. Unlike Medical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which utilises higher pressures, mHBOT provides a gentler approach. Our chamber reaches a maximum pressure of 1.5 ATA, making it more accessible and comfortable for a broader range of individuals.

ATA stands for Atmospheres Absolute. At sea level, the air pressure is 1.0 ATA. When you go underwater, pressure rises. Our 1.5 ATA chamber is equivalent to around 5 metres (or 16.4 feet) underwater.

The air you breathe normally is only 21% oxygen, the rest is made up of mainly nitrogen and other elements. When you sit inside our mHBO chamber, the oxygen you breathe via your mask is 97% pure oxygen.

Medical scientists are finding that the power of oxygen has a potential to support your body through:

  • A rebalanced immune system

  • Increased energy

  • Reduced pain & inflammation

  • Reverse ageing

  • Transformed brain and cognitive function

  • Healing stubborn wounds

As it is backed by science and has over 80 years of research behind it, HBOT is one the safest ways to treat chronic injury, illness and disease. Specialised research hospitals such as the Johns Hopkins Hospital are starting to test how HBOT can help people with conditions including:

  • MS

  • Autism

  • Depression, Anxiety and PTSD

  • Chronic Pain

  • Insomnia

  • Brain damage

  • Concussions

  • Migraines

  • Respiratory issues

  • Circulatory issues

  • Autoimmune conditions

While this research is still in its infancy, early signs show promising results..

How Do Mild Hyperbaric Oxygen Chambers Work?

When you sit inside a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, 3 critical physiological changes occur inside your body.

1) Reduction of chronic inflammation.

In a 2017 journal of human neuroscience, it was found that 75-90% of all human diseases starts from chronic inflammation. In this situation, the body is under constant stress, and healing oxygen can’t reach the affected area.

Stubborn inflammation can occur as a result of years of chronic illnesses, disease and severe injuries. Inflammation like this causes a lack of blood flow and oxygen to the affected tissue areas, making it near impossible for your body to heal itself.

When you sit inside a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber, your body is given a chance to pump oxygen into hard to reach places. The flood of fresh oxygen into your blood binds to the plasma, which rushes into tissue which normally has restricted by blood flow caused by inflammation. When the super oxygen seeps into ‘hard to reach’ places via the blood, the body’s natural healing mechanisms are enabled as new blood vessels grow and stubborn inflammation is reduced.

2. Hyperbaric therapy bolsters the body’s defences with Glutathione

Known as the “Master antioxidant”, everybody’s immune system is closely monitored by Glutathione, which is produced in the liver. Glutathione acts like a soldier inside your cells. When Glutathione detects danger, it jumps into action and eliminates harmful free radicals in your bloodstream. It’s especially important when the body is experiencing chronic stress and inflammation. After a HBOT session, your body will have an approximate 15% spike in Glutathione.

This keeps your cells safe from any further damage and reduces the severity of many chronic disease symptoms, and also speeds up recovery. Up to 95% of the Glutathione you ingest through food never gets absorbed by your body.  One of the few ways you can activate it naturally is by using a Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber.

3. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy multiplies the body’s natural healing agents – Stem Cells

Stem cells are used to regenerate muscle and tissue cells.

There are incredible stories of people who have used harvested stem cells who:

  • Were paralysed and can now walk again

  • Were previously blind, but stem cells regenerated the cells in their eyes and now they can see again.

  • Beat their crippling Crohn's disease by using stem cells to reset their immune system and saved their gut.

Medicine and science are enthusiastic about the possibilities for stem cells, and there could be exciting advancements in the next ten years because of how effective they are.

HBOT has been shown to increase your body's own (endogenous) circulating stem cells by up to eightfold within 24 hours.

To receive that amount of stem cells naturally is completely unheard of to most GP’s and specialists.  You simply can’t replicate that under normal conditions.

How does the Eclipse™ Elite 1.5ATA chamber regulate its environment?

It measures live oxygen saturation levels inside and outside the capsule through many extensive real time mathematical formulations to provide the user with a nontoxic oxygen environment.

Carbon dioxide buildup inside a confined space such as a hyperbaric chamber is a very real threat to long term health, and inferior chambers may not be equipped to deal with this issue. Our chamber has a CO2 scrubber built in, which eliminates excess CO2 buildup.

Also it controls the purity of 97% pure oxygen being delivered into the chamber. As the Eclipse™ Elite comes with its own manufactured and specifically designed oxygen concentration system, the CPU is able to analyse the external oxygen concentration which should be at 21%. O2. This can differ greatly depending on location, air quality, air pollutants and purity etc. The CPU automatically adjusts this to make available the best and most pure 97% oxygen available to you inside the chamber via the provided face mask, and it does this in milliseconds.

The Eclipse™ Elite regulates internal and external humidity levels. Increased humidity inside the chamber capsule and the operating units can cause major damage to moving parts and electrical componentry which can become a fire hazard. As compressed air combined with increased 02 concentrations is always warmer than normal sea level air, the temperature inside a portable hyperbaric chamber becomes so hot and almost unbearable to use unless internal temperatures are controlled. Our chamber features a computerised self-cooling setting which automatically keeps the chamber cool.

The Eclipse™ Elite chamber requires you to be seated at ground level, on an adjustable and padded seat. Please note that this may make it difficult for some people with mobility issues to use. You are welcome to make a time to come in and see the chamber and discuss any concerns you have around this. It is however, built for 2 people to be able to sit in. Once it is fully pressurised, it is surprisingly roomy! We provide blankets for comfort, and you are welcome to bring a book or have a nap while you have your sessions.
